I’ve come up with some books to keep me entertained over the summer. I know I’ll forget them if I don’t write them somewhere, and if they’re as good as they’re supposed to be I might as well share the knowledge.
William Gibson – Neuromancer
Greg Egan – Permutation City
Frederik Pohl – Gateway
Nancy Kress – Beggars in Spain
Apparently William Gibson was given a million dollar advance for his next book, making him the most highly paid Canadian author ever, and Robert J Sawyer calls the one by Pohl the best novel the SF genre has produced. Permutation City is about AI (as are Neuromancer and Gateway, I gather) and Beggars in Spain is about designer babies, and is supposed to be good SF for people who don’t read SF.
Now if I could just finish these final exams…
