I’ve been interested in signing up for Google AdSense recently. You might notice that I already have AdSense ads on my site, but those are imposed by my webspace provider. I do have the option of paying somewhere around $15 to remove the ads for one year, after which I’d be allowed to put them back by signing up for the program myself. It seems kind of weird to do that, but theoretically I could still make a profit from it. So, the question is, how much does AdSense pay?

If pursuit of an answer, I went to the obvious place – Common Questions on the AdSense website. But look under the question “How much will I earn through this program?”. For a company whose sole purpose is to make information easily accessible, they were suspiciously well able to avoid answering their own question. They tell me how money is earned, but not how much. All I want to know is “1 cent per click” or “1 cent per ten displays”. Something along those lines anyway. I know my site statistics and can figure out the rest from there.

“The best way to find out how much you’ll earn is to sign up and start showing ads on your web pages” they tell me. Doesn’t this seem a bit like a random website saying “The best way to find out what our membership fee is is to sign up.” Not something many people would go for, I bet.
