It’s the end of October and thus my annual hunt for a veteran is on. Specifically, a veteran giving out poppies. I wandered around downtown for quite a while yesterday looking for one with no luck. I checked the usual hotspots — the Roddick gates, high traffic areas around the metro and underground city, department stores, a post office and bank or two — but there wasn’t a poppy in sight. Except of course on the lapels of many passerbys. I’ve got a toonie burning a hole in my pocket so if any fellow Montrealers know where I might find a pile of poppies for the picking, let me know!
There was an old guy selling them by the spermy looking piece of art at McGill and University.
I’ve never been a fan of the whole poppy thing, I think there are many more worthy causes.
For me the meaning behind it is much more important than the donation.
I got mine right in front of Metro. Hope that helps.
I found one in the entrance to the Redpath Library :)
