The second way it's DNA is that the exact patterns come from the picture of DNA in the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arecibo_message" rel="nofollow" rel="nofollow">arecibo message</a> that was beamed into space. Each square is one nucleotide. Now who's an overachiever? And I'm not even in biology! Ten points for Audrey!
