I finished reading this one probably two months ago now, and just haven’t gotten around to writing up anything on it. I picked it up because of how much I enjoyed the first two of John Green’s books that I had read (Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns), and since this one is being made into a movie. Always have to read the book first.
I have to say though that I didn’t like this one nearly as much as Paper Towns. It was certainly good, but the characters didn’t really resonate with me as much as in Paper Towns (which is all about seeing characters as real people). What is really telling is that now, a couple months later, I don’t have much to say about it. The best books always stick in my mind, and while I remember enjoying the read, the details have faded. I have to say that some things that I do remember are some of the things I didn’t like, like the whole storyline about the book and the crotchety author. I didn’t really get to know much about Hazel and Gus because of all the other stuff they kept going on about.
Anyway, it was okay, but no Paper Towns.
